JOB DESCRIPTION
Union Position: $34.35 Per Hour
DEPARTMENT: TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION
- DUTIES: Under direct supervision of a journeyman lineman for assigned duties and full supervision of the Apprenticeship Committee for educational and training purposes.
- Assists as directed in the construction, operation, and maintenance of overhead transmission and distribution lines and their structures. Climbs poles and may work with or around energized lines not to exceed 600 volts.
- Becomes familiar with rope work, tools used by line crew, and learns to identify the various line materials; learns the materials that are necessary to constitute down guys, overhead guys, set of double cross arms, single cross arms, and a set of double arms to be used for mounting a transformer or other materials for mounting transformers.
- Receives on-the-job training on insulators in guy wires and the proper distance insulators should be from poles; assists in splicing wire; receives information on dimensions of the different cross arms and their relative pin spacing, including the type of insulators used for various voltages.
- Assists in performing regular duties such as digging pole holes and anchor holes, trimming trees, and keeping line transportation and working tools clean and in good operating condition.
- Assists in loading and unloading trucks and trailers; performs minor housekeeping duties around project areas and service center.
- Safely performs duties in accordance with all safety rules and policies as established by the Company; receives instruction in first aid.
- Required by the Apprenticeship Committee to fulfill the first-year apprentice requirements.
- Assists as directed; install and terminate underground transformers.
- Performs other related and assigned duties.
