Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned by supervisor):


  • Supports the Vision, Mission, and Goals of Higley Unified School District.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Interpret the programs, philosophy, and policies of the district to staff, students, and the community.
  • Supervise and evaluate elementary school principals.
  • Involves principals in goal setting and evaluation of elementary programs, using on-site visits and multi-point data as the bases for decisions aimed at raising student achievement.
  • Leads the development of continual professional development for elementary education leadership including planning and facilitating administrator meetings.
  • Assists school principals with planning and implementing effective instructional programs to ensure that objectives for student learning are met.
  • Supervise and respond to the needs of the daily management and support the district’s elementary schools.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians of students and resolves concerns as needed.
  • Communicate in a timely manner with parents and all audiences.
  • Assists the human resources department in determining staff allocations and with interviewing and recommending qualified candidates for elementary education administration positions.
  • Work productively as a team member with the Educational Services Team, the teaching staff, classified staff, and site-based teams.
  • Serves on Superintendent’s Cabinet.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Professional Development, the Executive Director of Secondary Education, and the Associate Superintendent maintain the overall K-12 instructional program including curriculum development, articulation, improvement, evaluation, and the development of effective training programs to implement the curriculum.
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate the work of the Director of Community Education.
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate the work of the Assistant Director of Program Compliance.
  • Collaborate with and assist the Director of Student Services as needed with student discipline matters, safety and security, and other school operations.
  • Serve as liaison with social, professional, civic, volunteer, and other community agencies and groups having an interest in the schools.
  • Prepares or directs the preparation of reports as required by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures compliance with state/federal regulations and other accreditation agencies governing elementary education programs and services.
  • Prepare drafts of Governing Board Policies and Administrative Handbook entries for the Superintendent’s review and action, providing training on policy implementation as needed.
  • Interprets elementary education programs to the Governing Board, staff, and the public.
  • Attends all Governing Board meetings and prepares information as the Superintendent may request.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree required or higher in Educational Leadership or related field.
  • Valid Arizona Administrative Certification.
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Card.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in an administrative position/role; district administration preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective elementary education principles, practices, and trends.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum, best practices in instruction and assessment, school operations and management, and leadership development.
  • Demonstrated record of success in leading strategic educational initiatives that resulted in measurable improvements in student achievement.
  • In-depth experience in the systemic implementation of progressive instructional practices.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


BASIC SKILLS:

  • Ability and competence to maintain rapport and composure with parents, students, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability and competence to operate general office equipment and job-related software.
  • Ability and competence to work within specific time frames and be detail-oriented.
  • Ability and competence to both lead and serve as a team member.
  • Ability and competence to lead implementation and assessment of CIP efforts.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; type/keyboard; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand and walk, occasionally required to position body by bending body downward and forward by waist and crawl to reach in specific spaces to access cable/cords. Employee must on occasions lift, raise, and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
