Under general supervision, coordinate all activities relating to land surveying and ensure efficient utilization of crew.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Ability to prepare, sign and seal all right-of-way and easement descriptions, surplus property descriptions,
boundary surveys and plats in accordance with the standards adopted by the Texas Board of Professional Land
Surveying.
2. Ability to accurately maintain city-wide vertical control monument network, city-wide horizontal and vertical
GPS monument network and City capital project master control points.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
3. Ability to review and interpret construction plans and survey data for accuracy and thoroughness and
accurately stake and/or monitor information in the field.
4. Ability to hire, train, evaluate and discipline staff along with assigning, scheduling and reviewing the work of
survey personnel and providing technical assistance for the survey division.
5. Ability to assist City engineers in resolving design and construction conflicts and implement solutions in the
field.
6. Ability to gather and process necessary survey data as needed to assist engineers with in-house design
projects.
7. Ability to track and monitor the division's operating budget, performance measures and workload data.

Must successfully complete a background check, MVR, Drug and alcohol test and HPE.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying pursuant to the standards adopted by the Texas
Board of Professional Land Surveying.
Knowledge of the operational characteristics of a variety of modern, automated survey instruments and
associated computer hardware and software including but not limited to electronic robotic total stations, electronic
calculation data, AutoCAD software and other related survey tools and equipment.
Knowledge of algebra, geometry and trigonometry used in conducting surveys, computing vertical and horizontal
curves and other engineering calculations.
Knowledge of public works construction materials, engineering design, methods and procedures to aid in
performing surveys for water, sewer, street and drainage systems.
Knowledge of Texas land surveying laws and proper researching methods.
Knowledge of office equipment including computers, supporting word processing, spreadsheet and AutoCAD
applications.
Skill in communicating professionally with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
Skill in reading and understanding public works construction plans, specifications and standards.
Skill in establishing and maintaining records.
Skill in preparing diagrams, sketches, notes and reports including but not limited to legal descriptions and exhibits
for real property, utility easements and right-of-way parcels.
Skill in performing closures on metes and bounds descriptions.
Skill in planning, organizing and monitoring subordinates' work assignments to accomplish department work plan
objectives.
Skill in the use of a scientific calculator, data collector, automatic level, electronic robotic total station and GPS
instruments.
Ability to lift up to 85 pounds.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or surveying, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) License required.
