What you will be doing:
We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Personnel/Payroll Technician for the Alaska State Legislature. In this role, you will have the opportunity to assist with payroll processing and provide administrative support to the Personnel office. You will also receive training in payroll procedures, interact with a diverse range of individuals, and develop a fundamental understanding of the Alaska legislature and state government.

Note: We will provide training
- Enter various employee actions into IRIS HRM, such as (but not limited to) merit increases, transition actions, direct deposit, tax withholding, mailing address, etc.
- Performs pay and leave adjustments.
- Enters time and attendance and leave cash-ins into IRIS HRM for the Agency, legislative staff, Legislative Finance Division, Ombudsman’s Office, and Office of Victims’ Rights for payroll processing.
- Perform stop-pay requests when necessary.
- Create HRDOC’s in IRIS. Creates new ID’s for onboarding employees.
- Gather personnel forms necessary to process new hires and rehires action as well as other payroll actions.
- Update Access databases regarding employee status, lodging stipends, mandatory leave, and archived employee files.
- Assists with answering phones and greeting visitors.
- Assists with monitoring office email and distributing work into various electronic folders for processing.
- Serves as backup for the recruitment functions.
- Assist legislative employees with general questions regarding retirement and health benefits.
- Act as liaison between the Legislative Affairs Agency, the Department of Administration Risk Management, and the Department of Labor Workers’ Compensation Division.
- Maintains electronic filing for payroll processing.

- The potential for flexible work schedules during interim when the legislature is not in session.
- Agency staff may accrue as compensatory time up to 150 hours worked over the standard work week. There is no cash value to compensatory time.
- The State offers paid leave starting at 6:04 (hh:mm) a pay period or 21 days a year. If you have previous time working for the State of Alaska in a leave eligible position, the time will be calculated into your accrual rate.

High school diploma or equivalent.
