Scottsdale Christian Academy (SCA) is a Christ-Centered covenant Christian school in our 5th decade in metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona. SCA conducts pre-employment and drug screening for all positions which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications. A Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is also required.

The Part-Time Strings Teacher will provide instruction and direction for the strings program at Scottsdale Christian Academy, including 4th Grade Beginning Strings, 5th Grade Strings, and Middle School Strings, all within the vision of the fine arts and instrumental music programs. Growing the strings program in a spirt of excellence is a focus of the role while showcasing God’s work in once per semester concerts.

We are seeking an individual who is passionate about Christian education and is called to work with youth, desiring them to grow in their understanding of subject matter with a biblical perspective. Beyond preparing lessons and grading assignments, this applicant will also take on routine responsibilities common to all SCA teaching staff. Our teachers are responsible for fulfilling the mission of Scottsdale Christian by equipping minds through engaging, innovative instruction and nurturing hearts by mentoring young people as a spiritual leader and role model.


REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES:

  • Education & Certification
    • Bachelor’s Degree in music-related education or a related field from an accredited college is required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • State teaching certification preferred.
  • Attain an ACSI 2-year Temporary Certificate within the first year of employment.

  • Experience:
    • Training in music/education and best practices in teaching is required.
    • Prior teaching experience in strings/orchestra preferred.

  • Skills:
    • Ability to plan and teach in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods.
    • Ability to develop authentic relationships with young adults
    • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and problem resolution skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
    • Excellent organizational skills for multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. Knowledge of FACTS a plus.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
    • Must be able to traverse school grounds and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Create an environment conducive to learning; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by SCA policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Direct all school strings performers, such as orchestra, string ensembles, and soloists.
  • Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in strings.
  • Organize strings participation and attend extracurricular events, including concerts and other school activities.
  • Partner with Fine Arts Director and Instrumental music lead to ensure vision and growth goals are aligned and recommend policies to improve program.
  • Maintain current inventory of all instruments ensuring student access to resources; oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all strings equipment, where necessary.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Handbooks.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities, accompanying and supervising students at all times.
