Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the Director of Campus Services with providing managerial oversight and operational direction of subordinate professional administrators of UHM Auxiliary Enterprises (i.e., Mail Services, Faculty Housing & Food Services, Parking &Transportation, and the Bookstore System), Commercial Enterprises (i.e., Central Stores, Kulanui products, Rainbowtique Shops and the Conference Center), and Campus Security & Emergency Management.
  • Provides leadership and direction of subordinate professional administrators with the preparation of long and short range operational plans and budget strategies; reviews and evaluates the development of a computerized information system to control general ledger, accounts payable, financial reporting, inventory and operational controls; directs cash flow planning, cash security measures and investment programs; monitors critical indicators of financial health such as return on investment, margins, and cash position.
  • Assists with ensuring that all revolving and special fund operations are self-supporting and self-sustaining, and appropriate funding levels are established and maintained for general funded programs.
  • Provides leadership and direction of subordinate professional administrators with the development of policies, plans and objectives for all departments as a whole and for each of the components of the division, for approval by the Director. Ensures all long and short range plans are based on data, research, and sound judgment, for approved by the Director.
  • Provides leadership and direction of subordinate professional administrators to ensure their respective units are operating in a manner consistent with State laws, University's policies and procedures, program and administrative needs.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in business administration or related field and 6 years of progressively responsible professional work experience with responsibilities for managing or overseeing operations in the field or at the line level, which includes 3 years of direct supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Extensive knowledge of innovative and state-of-the-art principles, concepts,
    emerging theories, the current federal and state laws and associated rules,
    regulations and interpretations and systems associated with managing or overseeing operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop short- and long-term plans of actions, understand problems from a broad perspective, use creative reasoning to discern broad underlying principles and issues when problem solving.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal mastery in presenting ideas, theories, issues and models clearly and accurately using persuasion and negotiation to build consensus and cooperation and provide long-term direction and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software.
  • For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting equal opportunity, affirmative action and cultural diversity.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters of graduate studies in accounting, business administration, public administration, or related field.
  • Experience working in a large college or university bookstore.
  • Experience working in auxiliary services management at a college or university.
  • Knowledge of innovative business and management strategies and practices as it relates to campus security and emergency management, commercial enterprises, and auxiliary management.
