Kitchen Supervisor

The Kitchen Supervisor position will oversee food preparation, delivery, service, and documentation of meals in accordance with established standards of nutrition, health, and sanitation to all Early Head Start and Head Start classrooms. Provides program and nutrition support consistent with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations, Kansas State licensing, and applicable Head Start Performance Standards (HSPS). Supervise Kitchen staff.
Responsibilities- Assist with assembling food, dishes, lunch carts, utensils and other necessary supplies needed for timely meal preparation and delivery to Early Head Start and Head Start classrooms.
- Order food and maintain meal substitution forms for all children on a special diet.
- Ensure milk order called into vendors in a timely manner.
- Purchase food and food supplies, using Sam’s Club, Price Chopper, EVCO and Whole Foods.
- Prepare high quality nutritional food, as measured by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) food guidelines, for children birth to 5 years of age.
- Follow standardized portions as determined by USDA.
- Prepare and sort food for meal preparation.
- Deliver meals from central kitchen to appropriate classrooms, as assigned.
- Order and pick up supplies as needed.
- Assist in receiving orders from vendors, ensuring that proper items have been delivered, and food is rotated so older food is used first.
- Conduct food inventory on a regular basis, and document damaged items and returns prior to disposal.
- Adhere to sanitation and safety procedures prescribed for a commercial kitchen.
- Document food temperatures at meal delivery and ensure all food is maintained at appropriate temperatures. Ensure that kitchen areas are sanitary and health standards are maintained.
- Plan and supervise routine maintenance and cleaning of kitchen equipment.
- Plan and supervise the cleaning of all office microwaves and refrigerators on a regular basis.
- Collaborate and maintain regular communication with the Kitchen Supervisor and Program Director.
- Maintain regular communication with the Kitchen Supervisor, Program Director and Health & Nutrition Specialist regarding medical and special diets.
- Maintain regular communication with Kitchen Assistant if applicable.
- Attend, at minimum, one training per year related to successful completion of job duties in addition to all other required trainings.
- Request and evaluate bids from various food vendors in compliance with HSPS.
- Monitor contracted portion sizes, delivery times and temperatures of food provided by vendor.
- Ensure compliance with CACFP forms, including the menu calculation book, menus, transport logs, and Child Nutrition (CN) labels.
- Maintain documentation of appliance cleanings.
- Meet with appropriate staff to update 30-day cycle menu.
- Maintain a professional presentation of self and Growing Futures when working with vendors and in the community.
- Attend professional development trainings and report new information to team.
- Ability and understanding to work in a program serving a high-risk, low-income population.
- Maintain and ensure confidentiality and privacy of Growing Futures.
- Uphold management decisions in word and action.
- All Growing Futures employees are mandated reporters for suspicion of child abuse and neglect.
- Set-up tables and chairs in meeting room as the need arise.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience working in a school or highly regulated environment strongly preferred. Supervisory experience strongly preferred.

- There is frequent daily bending and lifting of bulk foods, food bins, and hot food caddies. Items may weigh 10-30 lbs. each.
