General Statement: Within the Office of the Superintendent of Westerly Public Schools, to be responsible for district leadership and coordination of instructional programs, development of the district Strategic Plan, and development of systems and procedures that ensures all students are learning to high levels; to do related work as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the administrative direction of the Superintendent; work is reviewed for results attained and conformance to established polices, provisions of law, rules, regulations and district objectives.
Supervision Exercised: Supervises and reviews the work of Central Registration, Math and Reading District Coordinators, Staff Development and other curriculum leaders.
Responsibilities:
- Within the Office of the Superintendent of Westerly Public Schools, to be responsible for district leadership and coordination of instructional program
- To lead the development of the district-wide Strategic Plan.
- To develop systems and procedures that ensures that all students are learning to high levels.
- To coordinate and facilitate the horizontal and vertical articulation of the system-wide instructional programs, including professional development.
- To advise the Superintendent of system-wide instructional, curriculum and professional development needs.
- To oversee the writing and implementation of state and federal grants.
- To work closely with the leadership team to assist in evaluating instructional programs and implementing the necessary changes to improve student performance.
- To directly supervise and evaluate district-wide coordinators.
- To assist the Superintendent and Director of Finance and Administration in the area of human resource management, budget and policy.
- To represent the Superintendent, in his absence, at local and state meetings.
- To collaborate with the Directors of Technology and Special Education for the purpose of coordinating services and programs to improve student achievement.
- To work with parents and community members, as necessary.
- To act as the Superintendent in his absence.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
Required qualifications for appointment:
Knowledges, skills and capacities: A thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of Standards- Based Instruction and Assessment; experience working with diverse populations including children with disabilities, students with limited English proficiency, students who live in poverty and students who are talented and gifted; excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a collaborative shared leadership environment; an understanding of systems and school improvement through data driven decision making.
Education:
- Doctorate preferred
- RI Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent Certification required
Experience:
- Minimum of ten (10) years experience in education.
- Minimum of four (4) years of either building and/or central office experience.
- Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements and or certifications.
- Authorized to work in the USA
- Current national background check without disqualifying results at time of hire.
