Description

This position is for an Architectural Historian and is a temporary part-time/as-needed employment type. This position will report to the Principal Investigator. The employee will participate in conducting archival research, historic-age property and building descriptions and evaluations, photographic surveys, and preparation of technical documents for submittal to local, state, and federal agencies for review. Assignments will be both field and office-based.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills And Abilities)

  • M.A./M.S. in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a closely related field.
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for Architectural History.
  • 2 years of experience in cultural resource management as an Architecture Historian, preferred knowledge of the history/architectural history of the Southeastern U.S.
  • Strong writing and research skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Must be able to operate GPS units.
  • Experience in evaluating historic-era properties under NRHP designation criteria and integrity requirements.
  • Experience in assessing Section 106 impacts and effects regarding historical resources/historic properties.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Conduct fieldwork and on-site investigations for aboveground cultural resource surveys.
  • Viewshed Analysis, National Register of Historic Places Recommendations and Effect Determinations, Historic Contexts, Architectural History Survey and Inventory, Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) documentation, Historic American Building Survey (HABS) documentation, Historic American Landscape Survey (HALS) documentation.
  • Conduct Archival Research.
  • Assisting in technical report writing and completing SHPO survey forms and accompanying documentation.
  • Will search, develop, and write historic context statements.
  • Assist in production of proposal scopes and budgets.
