Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Forestry (Street Tree Service) Division located at 1520 West 9th Street

Starting Pay: $27.25-$40.88/hour

Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Assists assigned technical supervisor by directly supervising the activities of several street tree crews.
  • Checks permits for the removal and planting of trees and recommends species of trees to plant.
  • Checks complaints and reports of damage to trees on public grounds.
  • Supervises and personally checks automotive equipment and other equipment used in tree work for need of repair and general maintenance.
  • Supervises the spraying of trees and the maintenance of spraying equipment.'
  • Requisitions supplies needed by assigned tree crews.
  • Supervises and assists in the maintenance of clerical records.
  • Plans, develops, and coordinates tree planting activities in compliance with the City's landscaping code.
  • Reviews construction plans, specifications, contracts, and mitigation plans for compliance with codes, ordinances, and zoning as they relate to trees, forests, and other landscape materials.
  • Coordinates division/section activities with other divisions/departments, public agencies, and private entities.
  • Responds to requests for emergency assistance, such as fallen trees blocking roads or driveways and/or trees causing damage to real or personal property.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in horticulture, forestry, or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
