Primary Function

The Area Director is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and oversight of Club operations. Implements and oversees strategy for positive youth development and member experience with emphasis on safety, high-performing team development, and program quality while leading initiatives to achieve optimal average daily attendance of Club members.

Responsibilities

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities)

Leadership

  • Cultivate and assemble a high-performance team by actively recruiting, mentoring, and developing staff members.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, emphasizing teamwork and professional growth to achieve collective goals and organizational success.
  • Devote efforts to establish and strengthen connections with district personnel families and key stakeholders that significantly contribute to the growth of Club membership.
  • Actively engage with school district stakeholders to identify opportunities for collaboration, align programming with behavior/conduct and educational objectives, and create a seamless pathway for students to thrive within the Club environment, fostering both personal and academic success.

Financial Stewardship

  • Grant Integrity: ensure adherence to grant guidelines, policies, and reporting requirements. Uphold the highest standards of transparency, accuracy/timeliness, accountability, and compliance in all grant-related activities.
  • Budget Development: collaboratively collaborates with Club Executive Leadership staff to incorporate a thorough understanding of Club needs and to optimize financial allocations and resource utilization. Provides Club Executive Leadership with financial reports and recommendations to support informed decision-making and sustained fiscal health.
  • Budget Management: takes a lead role in the effective management of the Club budget, overseeing fiscal responsibilities, monitoring expenditures, and operating within budget parameters.
  • Resource Development: Uphold a commitment to ensuring the Club is in alignment with the resource development principles, standards, protocol, policies, and procedures, contributing to the overall integrity and effectiveness of resource development initiatives.

Safety

  • Prioritize and oversee Club safety as a paramount responsibility.
  • Implement and enforce robust safety protocols and procedures that are initiative-taking to ensure the well-being of all members, staff and volunteers and minimize risk, confusion, chaos, and uncertainty.
  • Conducts regular safety assessments, connects comprehensive training, and cultivates a culture of vigilance and emergency preparedness to maintain a secure and nurturing Club environment.
  • Prioritizes implementation of preventative measures and initiative-taking protocols aimed and reducing risks and enhancing safety proficiency.
  • Enforce comprehensive strategies to identify and address potential hazards/incidents before they arise.

Program Quality

  • Drive the enhancement and maintenance of program quality as a foremost responsibility.
  • Implement innovative youth development programs aligned with organizational goals.
  • Champion a commitment to excellence in program delivery, fostering an environment that promotes fun, supportive relationships, opportunities and expectations, recognition, safe and positive environment.

Facilities and Property

  • Take charge of maintaining and enhancing the physical environment to ensure optimal functionality, safety, and aesthetics are in accordance and aligned with all regularity requirements (KDHE licensing, BGCA Membership Requirements, State and local Fire Marshal compliance, and School District protocol).
  • Implement effective property maintenance procedures, manage facility-related projects, and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to uphold a secure and welcoming space for Club members, staff, and guests.
  • Implement and oversee policies and procedures to minimize loss, damage, mismanagement, and misuse of property and equipment.
  • Oversee strategy and procedure to determine Clubs’ building/space, equipment, grounds maintenance and repair needs.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Technology and System Utilization: utilizes technology and organizational system platforms for administrative tasks, data management, fiscal stewardship communication and reporting.
  • Manages program and operations administrative processes and ensures administrative data, from the Club level is accurate, added timely, and follows organizational standards and expectations.
  • Professional Development: Stay informed about best practices in youth development, Club compliance/regulatory requirements, systems management, and use, attend relevant training, and encourage staff professional development.
  • Conflict Resolution: Expeditiously addresses and resolves conflicts among staff, Club members, families, and partners (school district personnel, residential providers, SCPR, etc.)
  • Member Recruitment and Retention: Develops, engages in, and oversees strategies to attract and retain Club members, collaborating closely with schools, families, and community partners. Ensures a seamless and successful transition to Teen Center or other Clubs (if applicable, family move, district transfer, summer site preference, etc.) Establishes the foundation for Club success by assuring a consistent implementation of transition procedures and protocols of Club members identified as a special population.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and provide support to fellow Area Directors as part of a cohesive leadership team. Offer guidance, share best practices, and foster a spirit of mutual assistance to ensure collective success across all Club sites.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative working environment, promoting the overall growth and effectiveness of BGCT operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel between Club locations and attend off-site meetings regularly.
  • Stamina and physical fitness to perform duties that may involve walking, running standing, and participating in activities.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate office equipment and complete administrative tasks.
  • Capacity to lift and carry supplies or equipment as needed for emergencies, activities, or events.

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills to guide and inspire a team of Club staff.
  • Effective stress management and resilience to navigate challenges inherent in youth development and organizational management.

Experience Requirements

  • Relevant coursework that proves a solid foundation in youth development, program management, leadership
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience at a Boys & Girls Club or related field
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a managerial or leadership role, demonstrating the ability to oversee staff, multiple programs, and projects.
  • Proven experience in building and maintaining positive relationships within the community, collaborating with schools, and engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in implementing programs, and procedures, and ensuring conformance to policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Prior experience in budget development, fiscal management, and resource allocation
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others and contribute to a cohesive and effective team.
