Summary Of Position

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide highly skilled and specialized operations, maintenance, and management of certain elements of the City's parks system. Employees in this classification performs manual and, as needed, office environment work. Based upon Department needs, the core position responsibilities may include irrigation installation/repair/maintenance, landscape maintenance, athletic field maintenance, playground repair/inspection, graffiti removal, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, fabrication, small engine repair, and project management, or some combination thereof to include related work as required.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute specific projects with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain records and inventory as required.
  • Operates all types of ground maintenance machinery and equipment, i.e., back hoe, front end loader, water truck, chipper, tractor, and lawn mower.
  • Performs related functions as assigned.
  • Comply with all written City policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.

  • Requires ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
  • Requires the ability to exercise the judgment required in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by set procedures or sequences.
  • Requires the ability to perform coordinated movements involving placing and turning motions, such as operating a computer terminal, back hoe, tractor, mowers, soil compactor and line locator.
  • The ability to work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, subordinates and customers with respect.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training and certification, as applicable, related to a specific parks/grounds/ operation, maintenance or project management field listed in the Summary of Position above; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving specialized parks/grounds operations, maintenance or project management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must have Class C Texas Driver's License

Physical Demands/Supplemental

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds) and hand digging. Some tasks require visual, depth and sound perception and discrimination.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Tasks may risk exposure to extreme cold/heat or extreme weather conditions, strong odors or smoke, dust or pollen, and toxic chemicals.
