Summary Of Position

Under direct supervision, this position participates in the planning, facilitation, and implementation of various library programs; performs a variety of technical duties; and assists library customers. Responsibilities may differ according to assigned area. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions/Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides customer service to patrons of all ages at service desks.
  • Provides assistance to patrons in using and locating library and computer resources.
  • Plans and implements programs and activities for assigned area.
  • Assists with specialized tours.
  • Performs work on computer systems such as OCLC and Polaris.
  • Monitors supplies and verifies accuracy of all shipment items and publications.
  • Assists in training new employees and/or volunteers.
  • Collects money for late fees, copies, donated monies, and book sale.
  • Prepares department-specific statistical reports and/or budget spreadsheets.
  • Attends workshops and training sessions that deal specifically with assigned area.
  • Performs shelf maintenance responsibilities.
  • Registers patrons as library and/or computer users, and processes application forms.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing Interlibrary Loan materials.
  • Assists with quality control measures by verifying call numbers, titles, and location codes of newly cataloged materials.
  • Comply with all written City policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the below specified education and experience requirements.

High School diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
  • Library experience preferred.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must have Class C Texas Driver’s License
  • Must be able to work a combination of morning, afternoon, evening and weekend hours.

Physical Demands/Supplemental

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities. Tasks may involve sitting for extended periods of time (over 2/3 of the time), talking and hearing for extended periods of time (over 2/3 of the time), and standing (between 1/3 – 2/3 of the time). May also involve reaching with hands and arms (between 1/3 – 2/3 of the time) and using hands to touch, handle or feel objects (between 1/3 – 2/3 of the time). Some tasks involve walking (under 1/3 of the time), climbing or balancing (under 1/3 of the time), and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling (under 1/3 of the time).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
