The Claim Director is responsible for handling claims for all BHFL primary and excess lines of business including: Director’s and Officer’s Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability, Fidelity/Crime and Managed Care Errors and Omissions. The Claim Director will be responsible for investigating, evaluating, and resolving low to medium severity claims under the various coverages. The Claim Director will work closely with underwriters and general counsel in support of product development and marketing efforts. Key Functions Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Handle primary and excess healthcare-related Director’s & Officer’s Liability, Employment Liability, Fiduciary Liability, Crime and Errors & Omissions Claims
  • Draft coverage documents including reservation of rights letters, large loss reports and other internal claim related documents
  • Comply with Best Practices guidelines and other company claim handling requirements regarding communication, investigation, litigation management, coverage evaluation, exposure assessment, and settlement/resolution.
  • Engage in projects or other responsibilities/tasks outside of direct claim handling as needed
  • Actively self-educate as to line of business, industry and insurance trends including exposures, claims, legal, legislative, healthcare, current events, self-improvement and innovation

This role is based in West Hartford, CT

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required (Juris doctorate degree preferred but not required)
  • 4-6 years’ experience handling low/medium severity claims in one or more of BHFL’s lines of business (D&O, EPL, Fiduciary, Crime, Managed Care E&O)
  • Proficiency with insurance contract interpretation and coverage issues
  • Healthcare financial lines claims experience preferred
  • Desire for new and varied job responsibilities beyond claims handling
  • Exceptional collaboration with internal and external teams and partners
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, determine priorities and adapt to changing priorities as needed

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees which for this role include:

  • Base Salary Range: $120,000 – $145,000
  • Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus.
