Position Overview

The Maintenance Manager will oversee and manage the maintenance operations for our manufacturing facility specializing in capsules, gel caps, and tablets. This role ensures that all equipment and facility systems operate efficiently, safely, and in strict compliance with industry standards and regulations such as cGMP. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a proactive approach to preventive and corrective maintenance, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum productivity in a highly regulated environment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintenance Oversight
    • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and corrective maintenance programs for all manufacturing equipment and facility systems.
    • Monitor equipment performance and schedule routine inspections, calibrations, and maintenance to meet stringent industry standard.
    • Responsible for ensuring predictive and preventative maintenance on all facility and production equipment is completed timely and per the established maintenance schedule, while maximizing operational efficiencies
    • Collaborates with Engineering on existing equipment improvements and design of new equipment.
    • Responsible for the development and implementation of a proactive maintenance program
  • Team Leadership & Management
    • Supervise and mentor a diverse maintenance team, including technicians and subcontractors.
    • Plan and assign work tasks, monitor performance, and provide ongoing training to ensure the team adheres to safety and quality standards.
    • Provides leadership, teaching, and coaching to technicians to better achieve tactical and strategic goals
  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety
    • Ensure that all maintenance activities are performed in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations.
    • Coordinate with quality assurance teams to support audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Budgeting & Resource Management
    • Develop and manage the maintenance department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective practices without compromising quality or compliance.
    • Evaluate and recommend capital improvement projects and equipment upgrades.
  • Vendor & Contract Management
    • Establish and maintain relationships with external service providers and vendors.
    • Negotiate contracts and manage outsourced maintenance services, ensuring timely and quality service delivery.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Work closely with production, engineering, and quality assurance teams to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize production interruptions.
    • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and service agreements, and prepare regular reports for senior management.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Lead initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and reliability with ability to utilize Lean and 5S/6S methodologies.
    • Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess equipment reliability, downtime, and overall maintenance performance.
Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of maintenance management experience in a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably with 5 years in the nutraceutical or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Ideal experience with equipment maintenance in a capsule, gel cap, or tablet manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth understanding of regulatory requirements, including cGMP guidelines, and experience managing compliance in a regulated environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building high-performing teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
  • Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and other relevant software tools.

Competencies

  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems used in manufacturing processes.
    • Experienced with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Electronics.
    • Familiarity with bottling lines, Bosch machinery, and HVAC maintenance is a plus.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex maintenance issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with internal teams, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Project Management: Experience in managing projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Safety Focus: Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations.
