Description

JSI seeks an experienced Archaeologist / Cultural Resource Consultant to join our team and support ongoing telecom projects in our Lubbock, TX office. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate with project staff to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations while providing expertise in cultural resource management.

Candidates would assist a current team with preparing documents and reports and reviewing those prepared by a 3rd party company to ensure that all project aspects meet Federal and State compliance requirements.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • • Develop and consult on proposals, methodologies, and research designs for cultural resource projects.
    • Coordinate and oversee field and laboratory crews, ensuring cultural resources compliance for internal and external clients.
    • Lead state and local land use and environmental permitting efforts, including special use permits and certificates of environmental compatibility.
    • Collaborate with third-party contractors in preparing environmental documents for permitting processes, coordinating with agencies such as BLM, NMSLO, DOTs, and USFS.
    • Provide project support, including compliance reviews, fieldwork assistance, budget coordination, and milestone tracking.
    • Engage with clients and project teams to resolve cultural resource issues and ensure projects meet deadlines and regulatory requirements.
    • Attend meetings and provide clear project updates, demonstrating professionalism and leadership.
    • Mentor and lead teams, promoting a collaborative and high-performance work environment.



Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field.
    Experience:
    • A minimum of 3 years of professional archaeological experience, ideally with a cultural resource consulting firm, federal/state agency, or an architectural/engineering firm.
    • Strong understanding of federal and state regulations (NEPA, NHPA, CWA, ESA) governing cultural resource management and environmental compliance.
    • Proven experience working with agencies like the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), FERC, BLM, US Forest Service (USFS), and US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).
    • New Mexico state and federal permitting (local, state, or federal) is highly preferred.
    • Experience managing multiple small projects or large-scale projects with diverse and evolving requirements.
    Skills:
    • Ability to navigate a fast-paced environment and work effectively within a collaborative team setting.
    • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
