The City of Aurora is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Professional Engineer in the Public Works Department/Engineering Division.


The Professional Engineer will assist with the planning, design and construction management of capital projects throughout the City. The duties of this position will include but are not limited to: surface drainage improvements, water distribution system improvements, stormwater/wastewater collection system improvements, roadway resurfacing/reconstruction, sidewalk assessment/replacement, bridge rehabilitation projects, traffic signal improvements, and other projects as assigned. Additionally, this position is responsible for coordinating with consulting engineers working on capital projects for the City. Depending on qualifications, this position may also help manage the City’s CRS program, NPDES permits, MS4 Stormwater Program, and/or the implementation of Motor Fuel Tax and Federal Funds. Prior experience in every function listed above is not required.


This position requires a bachelor’s degree of science in Civil Engineering with a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the planning, design, and construction of public works improvements, including project management and supervisory experience. Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D and geographical information systems is a plus but not required. The candidate must be able to obtain an Illinois Professional Engineer license within 6 months of hire and must possess a valid driver’s license.

Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a physical, drug screen, and background check.


This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The annual salary range is $96,761.60 - $130,020.80 with starting rate dependent on experience and qualifications, but in most cases is no higher than the midpoint of the range. A one-time sign on bonus of $5,000 will be included.
