Stillwater Sciences seeks a highly motivated geomorphologist and/or geologist to serve as a member of an inter-disciplinary team working on watershed management, habitat restoration, and regulatory compliance projects. Candidates may be based out of our Arcata, Berkeley, or Davis, CA office.
The Geomorphologist will be responsible for:
- Participating in interdisciplinary teams focused on watershed assessment, habitat enhancement, instream flow analyses and water conservation planning, and sediment source identification and erosion control.
- Performing field data collection, GIS analysis, and reporting of geomorphologic, hydrologic, and physical components of aquatic and riparian habitat information.
- Providing technical and analytical support in developing engineering designs for restoration projects and to supporting regulatory compliance projects.
Qualified applicants should possess:
- MS or BS with a minimum of 2 years' experience working in the fields of geology, geomorphology, or hydrology.
- Experience applying geomorphic and/or geotechnical expertise to civil and environmental engineering.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to organize resources, prepare and/or execute detailed work plans, analyze data and confidently interact with project team members and clients.
- Excellent technical writing skills in scientific report format and literature review summaries.
- Experience in geomorphic mapping and surveying (e.g., robotic total station, RTK GPS, and related topographic and bathymetric survey equipment), stream gaging and sediment sampling, basic analytical methods in hydrology and hydraulics, and aquatic and riparian habitat mapping.
- Experience with sediment sampling and characterization.
- Experience with ESRI GIS software and/or other geospatial applications.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, R-Statistics and/or other statistical analysis and database software.
Required qualifications include:
- Valid Driver’s license in good standing.
- Able to remain in a stationary position more than 50% of the time.
- Must live in the United States and possess a valid work authorization.
Compensation and Application Details:
- Full-time (40 hours/week), benefited, non-exempt position in our Arcata, Berkeley, or Davis, CA office.
- Stillwater Sciences provides a competitive compensation package including a 401(k) plan, full health and dental care and an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP) after entry criteria are met.
- $67,500-$82,000 annual salary; salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- Out-of-town work (requiring overnight stays) may be required (field efforts, meetings, and conferences).
