Job Description:

Calibration Engineer II is responsible for the development and validation of engine calibrations for stoichiometric, and natural gas engines and ensuring the calibration meets the emissions, efficiency, and power targets for that product line. The calibration engineer II will work directly with test technicians to perform engine testing and will have oversight from senior calibration engineers. The calibration engineer II will also support the work of design engineers who are responsible for the specification of various engine hardware, ensuring the completed package meets the design targets.

Essential Duties:

  • Performs calibration and performance evaluation of internal combustion engines.
  • Review engine test data for quality, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Researches, develops, and prepares specifications for testing and calibrating existing or new products.
  • Coordinates tasks, perform tests and resolve any issues related to calibration.
  • Adjust equipment to ensure settings are compliant with established standards.
  • Prepares technical reports as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field. Prefer a master's degree with a thesis related to internal combustion engines.

Required:

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience with testing and documentation/reporting of results.
  • 3+ years of experience with instrumentation and signal processing.
  • 3+ years of experience with data acquisition and analysis systems.
  • 3+ years of experience with internal combustion engines.

Preferred:

  • Honorably discharged service veterans preferred.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Experience with engine calibration software (ATI Vision, INCA, Calterm, etc.) and performing base engine calibration or performance development calibrations for 1-3 years.
  • Experience with engine test cell operation including test cell setup, cylinder pressure measurements, knock calibration, transient calibration, emissions analyzers, and calibration.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines, theory of operation, measures of performance, emissions regulations, emissions reduction technology, and calibration procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with strong attention to detail both verbally and written.
  • Able to work independently and ensure tasks are completed with little supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong prioritization, organization, and project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively and maintain deadlines.
  • Able to work well across disciplines and departments.
