Position Summary
The Scrum Master / Technical Project Manager will be responsible for facilitating and guiding Agile practices within the development and product teams, ensuring the teams are working efficiently, effectively, and in alignment with the principles of Scrum.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Scrum Master, with a deep understanding of Agile methodologies, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remove impediments and foster a high-performing team environment. The Scrum Master / Technical Project Manager will work closely with the development team, Product Owner, and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of high-quality products. This role will also take on general project management duties to ensure overall project alignment and successfully project delivery.

Essential Duties
- Facilitate Scrum Processes:
- Lead and facilitate all Scrum ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Ensure that the team adheres to Scrum principles and practices, fostering a disciplined approach to Agile development.
- Support the Development Team:
- Proactively identify and help remove obstacles that may impede the team’s progress.
- Foster a collaborative environment where the team can be productive and self-organizing.
- Assist the team in breaking down work into manageable tasks and estimating effort.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with the Product Owner to ensure that the product backlog is well-groomed and prioritized.
- Facilitate communication between the development team, Product Owner, and other stakeholders, ensuring that everyone is aligned on project goals and expectations.
- Promote transparency by ensuring that the team’s progress is visible and understood by all stakeholders.
- Accurately determine project status and effectively communicate to stakeholders.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Encourage a culture of continuous improvement by helping the team identify and implement process improvements.
- Conduct regular retrospectives and work with the team to turn insights into actionable improvements.
- Monitor and report on key metrics related to team performance and Agile maturity.
- Risk & Issue Management:
- Proactively identify and manage risks and issues that may impact the team’s ability to deliver.
- Work with the team and stakeholders to develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
- Coaching & Mentoring:
- Provide coaching to team members on Agile best practices and principles, helping them to grow and improve their skills.
- Mentor junior Scrum Masters and Agile practitioners within the organization as needed.
- Project Planning:
- Assist with project planning and timeline creation/ maintenance.
- Actively monitor overall project progress and dependencies.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Scrum Master in an Agile development environment.
- Proven track record of successfully facilitating Scrum teams and delivering software projects on time and within scope.
- Experience above should also include working with cross-functional teams, including developers, testers, and business stakeholders.
- Intermediate experience performing traditional project management duties such as creation of timelines and Gantt charts using Smartsheet or comparable project management tool.
- Agile Expertise:
- Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, particularly Scrum.
- Intermediate Experience with Agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar project management software.
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or equivalent Agile certification is preferred.
- Leadership & Communication:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide teams toward successful delivery.
- Experience in conflict resolution and the ability to handle challenging situations calmly and effectively.
- Problem-Solving & Adaptability:
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and navigate ambiguity.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field is preferred but not required with sufficient relevant experience.
- Portland, OR (hybrid) preferred
- or Remote (West Coast hours) - if remote, travel to PDX will be required.
