DASNY is New York State’s capital development authority and provides financing and construction services to public and private universities, not-for-profit healthcare facilities and other institutions that serve the public good.
The Cyber Security Unit is part of the Information Services department, which belongs to the Executive Direction division. The Cyber Security Team is committed to engaging and working with DASNY employees to promote a comprehensive information security program. Our mission is to establish and maintain comprehensive and inclusive information security capabilities to prevent, detect, and respond to cyber threats.
Primary Purpose
Under the supervision of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), a student intern will perform a variety of tasks related to Cyber Security. The Cyber Security Intern will have the opportunity to apply concepts, protocols and tools acquired through coursework in the real world by working side by side with experts in cybersecurity. The Cyber Security Intern is responsible for assisting the CISO with many components of DASNY’s information security program.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be a full-time, matriculated undergraduate (sophomore level or above), or first year graduate student pursuing a degree in Cyber Security or a related discipline.
Essential Skills
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
Proficiency in PC applications such as Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint.

The Cyber Security Intern is responsible for assisting the CISO with many components of DASNY’s information security program.
Essential Functions
- Review and update documentation for policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
- Assist with deployment and upkeep of the information security department’s website content.
- Provide first level compliance monitoring and investigations.
- Assist with forensics analysis and fact gathering.
- Assist with vulnerability assessments and penetration testing for specific applications, services, networks and servers as required.
- Assist with applications/tools including but not limited to anti-malware, mobile device management, security operations center (SOC) alerting and detection and access and data anomaly tracking.
- Support firewall management activities including firewall rule analysis and the creating and maintenance of Visio diagrams that detail DASNY’s firewalls and interfaces/connections.
- Perform compliance audits against institutionally accepted security controls.
- Record and track IT security incidents, including but not limited to compromised accounts, e-mail threats, and abuse reports from various sources.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must adhere to the NYS Information Security Policy Standards established and issued by the NYS Chief Information Security Office. (Standards can be found on the Intranet.)
- Student interns are subject to and must comply with applicable laws, policies, procedures and expectations for DASNY employees.
