Position Overview
The Coordinator of Social Media will assist the Social Media Manager in managing Charlotte Hornets social media accounts, as well as providing guidance for other Hornets Sports & Entertainment (HSE) social media accounts (e.g., Spectrum Center, Hornets Fan Shop, Hugo the Hornet, Hornets Community, etc.) as needed. The coordinator will assist in the ideation, creation, and publishing of content for all Hornets social properties. They will attend practices, shootarounds, games and other HSE events to provide coverage for social media. The coordinator will stay on top of emerging trends in sports, pop culture and social media, and will identify opportunities to join relevant social conversations. In addition, this role is responsible for community management efforts for HSE social properties, including responding to comments and DMs, as well as seeking out engagement opportunities with creators.

- Assist in ideating, creating, and publishing day-to-day Hornets social media content on Facebook (FB stories), Twitter, Instagram (IG stories), Snapchat, Storyteller,YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, Weibo, Threads and any new social platforms that emerge
- Assist with day-to-day coverage of team and players (practice, interviews, games, shootaround, warm-ups, postgame, etc.)
- Work with digital team to develop timely content relevant to current trends in social media and pop culture
- Use Slate to create photo and video content for social media
- Take photos and edit them in Adobe Lightroom
- Assist with influencer research, coordination and approvals
- Assist in the creation of content calendars for Hornets social media
- Take the lead on long-form content strategy and publishing of YouTube content
- Help create and plan unique revenue opportunities (e.g., ticket promotions/sales, youth programming, retail, and partnerships) to fit the social/digital space
- Learn the social voice and tone of the organization to effectively communicate with fans, respond to inquiries and join in relevant online/digital conversations
- Assist with international content development and creation for Weibo
- Clip game highlights and additional television clips for social media via WSC and AvGen.
- Other duties as assigned by department director
To perform the job successfully, you should demonstrate the following competencies:
- Minimum of 2 years social media experience in a professional role or comparable Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social media, journalism, English, public relations, or related field
- Strong command of the English language with close attention to spelling and grammar
- Strong understanding of YouTube best practices, content creation and content optimization
- Strong understanding of vertical video trends, best practices, and optimization
- The ability to develop and/or concept various forms of content across different platforms including videos, photos, graphics, and text-only posts
- Work with a wide variety of people and develop strong relationships
- Able to multi-task under time constraints, meet deadlines and work within a fast-paced industry/environment
- Well organized, strong attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple projects with minimal supervision
- Assist in video and photo capturing
- Experience in the Adobe Creative Cloud with experience in graphic design and/or video editing for social media is a plus
- Excellent communications skills – both written and verbal
- A self-starter who is resourceful and an outstanding teammate
- Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends and holidays
