New Mexico Mutual is the premier Workers’ Compensation insurance carrier dedicated to New Mexico employers and their workers. We are homegrown, and insure roughly one-third of the state’s workers’ compensation market.

The Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (VP/CFO) is responsible for directing and overseeing all financial activities of the company to ensure the continued long-term growth, stability, and financial strength of New Mexico Mutual.

The VP/CFO reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The VP/CFO provides strategic leadership for the organization as an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team to establish and monitor goals and overall business strategies. The VP/CFO is responsible for building and managing a team of professionals responsible for all accounting and finance functions.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial activities of the company, including preparation of financial statements and reports, tax returns, a long-range financial plan, financial forecasts, and reporting for regulatory agencies
  • Responsible for all finance and accounting activities for the company, including the development of effective internal controls and the assessment and monitoring of such controls
  • Manage risk and develop strategies for risk mitigation to protect the Company’s assets
  • Ensure that financial systems are in place to promote profitable growth, support the company's business strategy, and create strong financial stability
  • Coordinate the preparation of all financial information, metrics and benchmarks required to be included in the A.M. Best report
  • Responsible for overall reserve position of the company including developing quarterly IBNR estimates and coordinating semi-annual actuarial reviews
  • Partner with and maintain strong working relationships with professionals critical to the company's success, such as examiners, regulators, auditors, and actuaries
  • Provide strategic leadership as an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team, establishing and monitoring goals and overall business strategies
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization and with stakeholders as an effective developer of solutions to business and financial challenges
  • Spearhead the development, communication, and implementation of the budgeting process throughout the company
  • Provide comprehensive financial analysis and support for strategic business decisions and communication with stakeholders (including the Board of Directors)
  • Report timely financial results and trends to the Senior Leadership Team
  • Coordinate the development of key financial indicators, ratios, and benchmarks
  • Optimize the handling of bank relationships and available cash, and execute appropriate strategies to create an optimal cash position
  • Manage relationships and negotiate contracts with professional accounting and financial service providers
  • Oversee investment strategies and manage the investment portfolio including engagement and evaluation of investment managers, development of an asset allocation model and Investment Policy Statement consistent with the company's mission and long-term strategy, and measurement of portfolio performance against appropriate benchmarks
  • Provide strategic input and leadership on financial concerns
  • Motivate and lead a high-performance management team, recruit additional members of the management team as needed, and mentor team members as appropriate in support of the management career development program
  • Promote a success oriented, accountable environment within the company that creates a high level of employee morale and opportunity for advancement

Education

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, with a Master’s degree preferred in a related discipline; ten years of directly related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional designations preferred.

Experience

At least fifteen years of Finance and Accounting experience, with at least eight years of management experience preferred. This position requires significant technical knowledge and development and implementation of high level business strategies.
