Job Description

We are seeking a full-time General Counsel with 7+ years of experience to join our team and help lead the charge for our company’s continued growth. The selected candidate will provide general counsel to the executive leadership team with the opportunity to work on a broad array of strategic and day-to-day matters, including but not limited to, domestic and international franchise marketing and sales, transfers, acquisitions, and related affiliate oversight and due diligence activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general counsel and advice on best practices to mitigate risks.
  • Contribute to the development of implementation of company-wide strategies as part of the executive team.
  • Provide expert legal advice on domestic and international franchise transactions and documentation, disclosure documents, compliance and regulatory matters.
  • Draft various transaction documents and communications with precision and clarity.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support business operations and draft policies as required.
  • Manage outside counsel as needed, including litigation counsel.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the bar in your jurisdiction.
  • 7+ years of legal experience, with a strong background in franchise law, including knowledge of federal and state franchise regulations.
  • Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to draft clear, concise, and persuasive legal documents. The ideal candidate will have expertise in franchise law, exceptional writing skills, and a proven ability to work collaboratively as an executive team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate legal concepts clearly, accurately, and succinctly to a wide range of audiences in a collaborative environment.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience of providing general counsel or in-house legal support is a plus.
  • Experience working with franchisees, franchisors, or in a corporate legal setting.
  • Familiarity with business operations and commercial contracts beyond franchise law.
  • Willingness to explore and develop capabilities in unfamiliar legal subject areas.
  • Experience advising executive-level team members.

Location:

Preference will be given to candidates who generally can work from our headquarters in San Mateo, CA a minimum of 2 days a week, but we will consider candidates in the United States who would be serving in this role remotely. Limited business travel may be required.

Vanguard Cleaning Systems, Inc. offers a competitive benefits package, base salary, and bonus program for eligible roles based on individual and company performance. The anticipated base gross salary range for this position is $275,000 - $300,000 annually. Actual salary will depend on a variety of factors, including experience and training. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we’ll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
