PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Director, Business Development, reports directly to the SVP of Business Development and Strategy. The Director is responsible for strategic planning and new business development, conduct external search and evaluation efforts in support of RAPT’s pipeline as well as manage certain in and out licensing efforts.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Identify suitable licensing and partnership opportunities
· Plan and conduct BD meetings, e.g. at partnering conferences and scientific congresses; expand and manage our external network of business and scientific contacts supporting BD activities
· Triage external opportunities originating from various sources, taking into account scientific/clinical, commercial and financial/business data
· Conduct internal evaluations and diligence of promising business development projects, including technical, commercial and IP diligence and financial assessments
· Working with SVP of BD & Strategy, lead business case preparation and (in collaboration with Legal) term sheet negotiations and contracting
· Working with the SVP of BD and Strategy, negotiate and implement major company contracts in partnership with RAPT’s Legal Team, including in-licensing and out-licensing deals and strategic collaborations
· Foster development of a collaborative organizational culture
· Requires working with executive and senior leadership in other functions (R&D, finance, legal, commercial and manufacturing), including presenting/reporting progress to RAPT’s Senior Management Team
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or related field; Graduate degree in life sciences or related field or MBA preferred
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
· 10+ years of relevant industry experience in biotech and/or pharma
· Minimum of 5 years in business development role with proven track record of identifying, structuring, negotiating, and closing transactions
· Excellent interpersonal, networking, and communications skills
· Proven success facilitating decision-making among senior management
· High sensitivity to, experience working with, and ability to manage, cross-cultural differences (personally, organizationally, culturally)
· Strong ability to relate effectively across corporate hierarchy and functional areas
· Ability to coordinate, interact with, and build alignment among multiple parties/functions/ groups
· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential conversations
· This role will require travel, approximately 4-5x/year
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must have ability to work effectively in a matrix environment, managing timely and high-quality contributions from other key functions including senior leaders
· Therapeutic product development and/or commercialization experience in Inflammation/Immunology
· Managerial experience preferred
California law requires pay information in job postings. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications, prior experience, and other relevant factors. The estimated annual pay range for this position is $241,500 (entry-level qualifications) to $263,400 (highly experienced).
