We expect the leader in this position to ensure that we build trust in BWB across Baltimore, create and maintain mutually-beneficial partnerships, and actively engage with community members and partners in diverse ways that empower them to take effective environmental action. This position also holds a joint focus on overseeing the development and implementation of BWB's Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) initiatives to ensure alignment of internal and external engagement tactics.
Salary: $85,000 - $90,000 dependent on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Community Engagement Strategy Development and Oversight
- Create annual and project-based organizational programming plans that align with BWB’s mission, vision and values.
- Develop and ensure organization-wide understanding of BWB’s community engagement vision, values, and strategy.
- Ensure that BWB staff and volunteers have the training and support needed to sustain strong community-based partnerships, build equity-focused programming into BWB’s work, and communicate effectively and proactively to ensure the public's trust.
- Develop and manage community feedback mechanisms to enhance program relevancy, including serving as the liaison to the Community Advisory Board.
- Serve as a key point of contact for community leaders and partner organizations across BWB’s programs and engagement areas.
- In collaboration with fellow leadership staff, lead staff and volunteers in developing and implementing plans and strategies that authentically integrate JEDI into BWB’s operations, programs, and culture.
- Work with staff and board members to develop a shared vocabulary and understanding of these concepts across the organization through training and other relevant tactics.
- Provide justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion analysis of external programmatic work and align them toward equity and inclusion.
- Co-chair Board of Directors’ JEDI committee.
- Lead and support a dedicated team of staff in outreach, volunteer coordination, and event execution by overseeing the planning and implementation of community engagement campaigns to ensure alignment with the organization’s brand and messaging standards.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work culture, ensuring staff are motivated, skilled, and aligned with Blue Water Baltimore’s core values.
- Utilize data analytics to measure the effectiveness of community engagement efforts, identifying areas of improvement and highlighting successes.
- Work with the program impact committee to set and evaluate engagement metrics, including volunteer participation, community outreach outcomes, and environmental impact.
- Regularly provide reports to leadership and stakeholders, using data to communicate progress and demonstrate the impact of Blue Water Baltimore’s work.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key community partners, stakeholders, and local organizations based in listening and co-development around mutual goals.
- Collaborate with other departments, including communications and development, to ensure alignment across programs and messaging.
- Uphold and promote Blue Water Baltimore’s brand and messaging across all community engagement initiatives.
- Ensure that all outreach materials, events, and public-facing communications reflect the organization’s values and commitment to environmental justice, equity, and inclusion.
- At least 5 years management experience, preferably at a nonprofit of similar size.
- Experience in assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of programs.
- Experience in creating, planning and maintaining multiple departmental budgets.
- Understanding of environmental justice and commitment to promoting environmental justice in the Baltimore Metropolitan area.
- An extremely high degree of social-emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Deep experience with mediation and facilitation.
- PMP certification or advanced experience is a plus.
- DEI (JEDI) certification preferred.
