Job Summary:

Fat Fender Garage is a rapidly growing custom automotive manufacturer, and we're seeking a highly organized R&D Document Control Specialist to support our expanding Research & Development team. This on-site role plays a critical part in establishing and maintaining clean, consistent systems for organizing technical files, tracking project data, and sharing information across departments. You’ll also work directly with the design team to create clear, professional installation instructions for our custom products. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on structure, is a strong communicator, and is excited to help build documentation systems from the ground up in a fast-paced, growing company.

Key Responsibilities:

• Organize and manage digital files on our NAS server, including CAD models, design documentation, and supporting assets
• Perform retroactive cleanup of legacy folders and project files for better traceability and usability
• Create and maintain standardized naming conventions and folder structures across R&D projects
• Disseminate project files and technical information to internal departments such as procurement, sales, marketing, and shipping
• Work with the design team to develop clear, user-friendly installation instructions for custom products
• Track revisions of design files and documentation to ensure version accuracy
• Identify opportunities to improve documentation workflows and implement scalable solutions as the company grows
  
  
  

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience in document control, technical writing, or file management
• Familiarity with CAD file types and product design processes (SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360)
• Experience with NAS or network-based file management systems
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Strong written communication skills for creating instructional materials
• Proactive, self-directed, and able to work collaboratively across teams
  
  
  

Preferred:

• Experience creating product manuals, technical guides, or installation instructions
• Background in automotive, fabrication, or manufacturing industries
• Understanding of interdepartmental workflows, including procurement and marketing
• Comfortable in a hands-on, fast-paced shop environment
