Description

We are currently seeking an Accounting Clerk with a focus on Accounts Payable to work onsite in Des Moines, IA.

Position Summary: Accounts Payable is responsible for processing daily payment transactions, managing vendor invoices, reconciling accounts, and supporting the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within the accounting team.

Essential Functions

  • Process daily payment transactions and ensure timely disbursements.
  • Verify, code, and enter invoices accurately into the accounting system.
  • Keep track of all payments and expenditures, including purchase orders, invoices, and statements.
  • Reconcile payments and ensure alignment with account balances.
  • Maintain accurate records of invoices, payments, and statements.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly accounts payable reports.
  • Respond to vendor inquiries regarding invoices and payments.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies or payment issues.
  • Work closely with the Accounting Manager and team to resolve complex problems.
  • Organize tasks to meet deadlines and support team initiatives.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Intermediate data entry speed (40–45 WPM).

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Minimum High school Diploma/GED
  • Associate’s degree in accounting or finance preferred.
  • 1–2 years of experience in accounts payable, billing, or bookkeeping.

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit for extended periods. Some standing and walking are required. Continuous vision required for detailed work. Frequent hand/wrist/finger movement for data entry.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Typically works 40 hours per week with 1-2 hours over-time as needed.
