Position Summary

Are you an experienced CNC Programmer passionate about sustainability and seeking a rewarding career opportunity? Look no further than the University of Dayton's Research Institute, where we are seeking a Master Sustainment Technician - CNC Programmer to join our team in Warner Robins, GA.

This position is located at the Advanced Technology and Training Center (ATTC) in Warner Robins, GA at the University of Dayton Research Institute. This position will support advanced manufacturing programs for Air Force sustainment activities. The position will serve as a principal CNC programmer for advanced manufacturing technologies, supporting additive manufacture, additive repair and solid-state metal deposition (e.g. friction stir) systems. As these systems are used to build, join, coat, and repair metal components, the ideal candidate should be highly experienced in 3, 4 & 5 axis CNC programming using Mastercam, but must also possess substantial experience writing line g-code for 3-axis machining operations, without the aid of CADCAM software. This candidate is also responsible for part post processing such as 3 & 4 axis milling, wire EDM, fixture design, mentoring junior or less skilled technicians, while adhering to lab and equipment guidelines. The successful candidate will understand machining and additive manufacturing techniques and provide guidance on design for manufacturability, equipment and part set up, and part processing. The majority of work will support government customers, but some industry partners will be supported as well.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in computer numerical control (CNC) programming for metals (i.e. milling, turning, EDM, etc…)
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience using Mastercam software to program CNC machining equipment to produce complex 3-axis aerospace parts and fixtures
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of g-code, with a minimum of 5 years of experience creating NC code for processing part/tool designs without the aid of CADCAM software (i.e. writing g-code for machining operations)
  • Ability to create, read and interpret models, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
  • Organizational skills
  • Effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills with team members at all levels
  • Attention to detail
  • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • 20+ years of experience in CNC programming and machining operations for metals
  • Experience working with friction stir welding or related technologies
  • Experience programming and operating Haas CNC milling machines and lathes
  • Experience creating part machining work plans or job packets
  • Proficient in Solidworks and Mastercam
  • Experience in jig and fixture design for CNC work holding
  • Multi-axis (i.e. 4th & 5th axis) and trunnion programming experience
  • Experience machining castings or additively manufactured parts
