Summary

Under general supervision, the Planning Technician provides technical support to staff members, customers, and the public on issues related to planning, zoning, and development.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support for City’s current and long-range planning activities
  • Gathers, assembles, analyzes, and prepares reports on land use and planning issues
  • Analyzes land patterns and trends; conducts ownership surveys; analyzes demographics and code enforcement
  • Prepares maps, reports, and comparison surveys with data from other cities
  • Drives to and from field sites for evaluation of land use
  • Consults with supervisor about currently active projects
  • Assist in the data collection, public meeting facilitation, and implementation of long-range planning projects
  • Attends meetings, prepares minutes for Planning and Zoning Commission, and Zoning Board of Adjustment; assembles and delivers agenda packets
  • Provides assistance, resources, and information to developers, citizens, and landowners
  • concerning city development process
  • Follows all financial policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Combination of education and/or experience equivalent to an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, or related area
  • One (1) year of experience in Planning or associated field


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning field or related area
  • One (1) year of experience in municipal government planning/permitting field


Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Valid driver’s license
