Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and result-driven Transloading Operations Manager to oversee and coordinate all activities related to the transfer of goods between different modes of transportation (e.g., rail to truck). This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective transloading operations while maintaining high service standards and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
We are seeking an experienced and result-driven Transloading Operations Manager to oversee and coordinate all activities related to the transfer of goods between different modes of transportation (e.g., rail to truck). This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective transloading operations while maintaining high service standards and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day transloading operations, ensuring timely and accurate transfer of cargo.
- Supervise and lead a team of transloading staff, including operators, and logistics coordinators.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate with transportation partners, railroad, trucking, vessel and warehouse teams to optimize scheduling and reduce delays.
- Monitor inventory and material flow through transloading facilities using ERP, WMS, or TMS systems.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, enforcing OSHA and DOT regulations and company policies.
- Manage and track KPIs such as throughput, cost per ton, downtime, and on-time delivery.
- Oversee maintenance and repair of transloading equipment.
- Develop operational budgets and control costs related to labor, equipment, and facility maintenance.
- Support business development by providing operational insights and customer service for key clients.
- Respond to incidents or disruptions with rapid problem-solving and decision-making.
- Prepare and present reports for senior leadership and participate in strategic planning.
- Education: College degree preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in logistics or supply chain operations. 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role within transloading, freight, or terminal operations.
- Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with transloading equipment and procedures.
- Experience using logistics software (e.g., TMS, WMS, ERP systems).
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Strong understanding of transportation modes and regulatory compliance.
- Combination of office and field work in a terminal or warehouse environment.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and heavy equipment.
- May require flexible hours, including overtime, weekends and holidays, depending on operational demands.
- Physical demands require frequent standing and walking around transflo yard. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Climbing ladders and railcars. Work environment may be subject to elevated noise levels. Safety and adherence to guidelines are critical at all times.
