Job Summary

The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day transportation and logistics operations for the organization. This role ensures the efficient, cost-effective, and timely movement of goods and materials in support of business objectives. The Transportation Coordinator works closely with carriers, suppliers, warehouse staff, and internal teams to streamline processes, resolve issues, and maintain high service levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all transportation activities including scheduling, dispatching, and tracking shipments to ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods.
  • Select appropriate carriers and negotiate freight rates to ensure competitive pricing and service.
  • Monitor shipment progress and proactively resolve any delivery or service issues.
  • Collaborate with procurement, customer service, warehouse, and production teams to align transportation needs with business demands.
  • Maintain detailed shipping records and documentation for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Manage freight claims, billing discrepancies, and ensure accuracy of transportation invoices.
  • Optimize routes and shipping modes to reduce transportation costs while maintaining service quality.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations and company policies.
  • Generate and analyze transportation performance reports to identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support logistics projects and initiatives to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in transportation coordination, logistics, or supply chain management.
  • Strong understanding of freight operations, shipping modes (LTL, FTL, parcel), and carrier management.
  • Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and ERP software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
