The Benefits Specialist is responsible for administering employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and other company-provided benefits. This role ensures compliance with regulations, communicates benefit offerings to employees, and serves as a key contact for benefit-related inquiries.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Administer employee benefits programs such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, 401(k), and wellness plans.
  • Conduct benefits orientation and open enrollment sessions.
  • Serve as a liaison between employees and benefit providers, resolving issues and answering questions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA).
  • Maintain accurate benefits records and prepare reports for audits or internal use.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to benefits policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with HR and payroll to ensure accurate benefits deductions and data integrity.
  • Support annual benefits renewal and vendor selection processes.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and legislative changes that impact benefits.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in benefits administration or a related HR role.
  • Strong knowledge of employee benefits regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and benefits management systems.

Preferred Certifications

  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS)
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or similar HR credential
