POSITION SUMMARY:
The individual in this position of Laboratory Analyst I will be an important member of the laboratory team. They will interface with other departments, such as Winemaking, Bottling, and the Cellar at various stages of production. This position requires attention and adherence to laboratory quality requirements, support of quality initiatives, teamwork, professionalism and demonstrated work ethic. This individual will work in the blending/barrels lab and be trained in Quality Control to support our Bottling Operations. The individual in this position may be responsible for monitoring wine quality before and after bottling for legal compliance. The individual in this position will also be responsible for inspecting packaging materials against quality specifications, monitoring wine quality before and after bottling for legal compliance, and performing audits of wine quality and packaging quality during bottling. This employee must be available for different shift schedules.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:
- Perform quality work in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
- Follow laboratory’s Standard Operating Procedures and safety protocols.
- Perform daily checks and calibrations for safety equipment and laboratory instrumentation.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and troubleshoot instrumentation.
- Participate in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the laboratory.
- Effectively perform routine and specialized laboratory analyses.
- Set‑up various wine trials as requested by winemaking.
- Prepare samples, standardize reagents, set sample priorities based on communication from lab manager, and oversee workflow of the laboratory.
- Enter analytical results into the database.
- Review analytical data for accuracy and context. Notify lab manager, winemaking, or cellar staff as appropriate.
- Contribute to and maintain high standards for quality assurance and quality control.
- Oversee the training of seasonal harvest personnel.
- Obtain sample from barrels and tanks.
- Revise, draft and assist with validation of department procedures.
- Perform routine audits for bottling quality performance and sterility.
- Operate measuring tools for package integrity (calipers, balance, vacuum gauge, torque, extraction force, and seal tester).
Essential Skills, Experience, And Education
- B.S. or M.S. degree in Enology, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience (food/beverage, environmental, or pharmaceutical).
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
- Computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio a plus).
- Availability to work overtime and flexibility to work varying shifts.
- Experience with a data management system.
- Spanish language skills.
- Prior production experience in a wine lab environment.
- Knowledge of legal requirements for wine production.
- Knowledge of wine chemistry, wine microbiology, wine quality, sensory and winemaking.
- Knowledge of advanced instrumentation.
- Possession of time‑management, project management, statistics, and critical thinking skills.
- Technical writing skills.
- Knowledge of HACCP, ISO9001, BRC, or ISO17025.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Experience in evaluating equipment.
- Knowledge and experience in internal auditing.
- Required to stand long periods of time.
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, sit, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl.
- Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds of weight.
