JOB REQUIREMENTS: Valley Transit is actively seeking customer-focused
individuals interested in a public transportation career. Master
Mechanics are responsible for basic repair and maintenance of Valley
Transit buses and related equipment. Work involves the repair and
replacement of engines, transmissions, electrical components, air
systems, etc., general servicing and preventative maintenance
procedures, emergency repair work and parts inventory and distribution.
Work is performed under moderate supervision of the Maintenance
Supervisor. The Ideal Candidate will have: o Excellent attendance and
reliability o Self-motivated o Ability to conduct oneself in a
Courteous, Professional, And Responsible Manner. ESSENTIAL JOB
FUNCTIONS: Inspects, services and repairs engines, transmissions,
electrical equipment and air systems such as brakes, compressors and
tires. Inspects, services and repairs axle and other supporting systems.
Performs body work. Performs preventative maintenance and general
servicing to vehicles including changing fluids, greasing, safety
checks, etc. Performs emergency road work to buses and related
equipment, replacing on the road vehicles when necessary. Road tests
vehicles to diagnose mechanical problems and evaluates service after
repairs. Answers radio calls. Maintains regular punctual and predictable
attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required. \*\*\*\*\* OTHER
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Requires considerable experience in the
repair and maintenance of transit vehicles and training beyond the high
school level in mechanical/automotive maintenance or related field; or
any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the
following knowledge, abilities and skills: Thorough knowledge of the
theory and operation of diesel engines, mechanical electrical, hydraulic
and pneumatic systems on transit vehicles. Thorough knowledge of tools,
equipment, methods and practices used in the repair and maintenance of
transit vehicles. Thorough knowledge of transit operations. Knowledge of
the precautions necessary to work safely in all aspects of the job,
including in and around vehicular traffic. Ability to obtain and
maintain ASE Certifications in gas and diesel engines, drive trains,
brakes, suspension and steering, electrical systems and State of
Wisconsin AG-136 Freon Certification. Ability to drive a bus and operate
a variety of related repair and maintenance equipment. Ability to
understand and follow oral and/or written instructions. Ability to make
independent decisions and exercise sound judgment in stressful or
emergency situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with other employees. Ability to withstand adverse
weather conditions. Possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin Class B
Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) with the P endorsement and a Federal
