Job Description

Position Title: TEM Technology Manager

Division/Department: Nano-Technology Systems Division (NSD)

Reports to: Director, NSD Product Marketing

Job Status: Full-time

FLSA Status (E or N): Exempt

General Description

The Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) Technology Manager is responsible for developing applications solutions and providing technical support to our customers, as well as the sales and marketing organization, to enable the company to meet customers needs and to achieve sales plans. The primary products will include high kV Transmission Electron Microscopes and related instruments. Communication with customers, factory engineers, and vendors to ensure effective support of the companys product lines is critical.

Specific responsibilities will include, performing instrument demonstrations, generating marketing collateral, pre/post-sales support, customer support, technical seminars and developing related applications. Strong experience in programming is a plus. The TEM Technology Manager will work closely with Applications Group and Product Marketing Management on defining applications for product strategies and roadmaps for specific product lines. The TEM Technology Manager will communicate and work with the sales team to promote and demonstrate products to potential customers. Must attend and participate in conferences, exhibitions, and industry shows. Domestic traveling is required with some international travel.

Strong English language communication skills and demonstrated TEM acumen are required.

Primary Responsibilities

Develop strategies to achieve budget and/or sales plans from all aspects of the business, planning internal resources and investment to support the account activities, and designing organization and infrastructure to execute the plan.

Develop new business opportunities

Provide product demonstrations and applications support to customers

Develop application notes (marketing collateral) for the appropriate product line

Generate technical data for advertising, proof statements, journal publications and other types of documentation

Review and edit marketing documents and other written documents/reports for technical accuracy

Provide sales staff with technical information in order to help them respond to customer issues and question

Deliver compelling product presentations

Conduct technical product training on instruments and applications for internal staff and customers

Perform instrument demonstrations to customers in support of system sales

Analyze customer samples for sales opportunities and technical support

Assist internal staff and customers with technical support and application issues

Review customer application needs with sales staff

Serve in a technical support role during sales calls

Resolving technical product line issues and problems

Key account management (technical)

Provide technical product marketing information to the factory for continued and next generation product development

Other assigned tasks or duties.

Education, Licenses, And/Or Certification Requirements

Masters/Graduate Degree in Science, Masters of Arts in Biology, Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field is required

Doctorates of Science / Doctorates of Arts in Biology, Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field is highly preferred, (OR)

Equivalent combination of education and work experience

Experience And Travel Requirements

Fifteen (15) or more years experience in related materials or biological science applications

Fifteen (15) or more years experience working with TEM instrumentation

Experience Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Focused Ion Beam (FIB) is strongly preferred

Experience With Tomography And Cryo-microscopy Strongly Preferred

Experience in programming specifically scripting languages or C, C++ is an advantage.

Domestic and international travel is equired, up to 50%.

Must be proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Must be detail oriented, organized, and able to make complex and timely decisions

Strong interactive skills with the ability to interpret technical discussion/information

Must be able to demonstrate TEM acumen

Knowledge of technical documentation techniques

Thorough and proven knowledge of laboratory practices/safety, procedures, and equipment

Effective time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines

Must have organizational, analytical, problem solving and customer relation skills

Effective cross-cultural communication skills and ability/willingness to work in diversified work environment

Ability to effectively communicate thru phone, email, text, and any form of present day digital media

Basic knowledge of finance, accounting, and/or budgeting

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently

Ability to speak and present in front of audiences, classes or educators

Demonstrate leadership skills with a strong work ethic

Must be a self-starter and able to work independently as well as in a team environment
