We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Research Project Officer to support the School’s Research Strategy and the delivery of high-quality research outputs and foster a collaborative, inclusive research culture. This is an exciting time to join our School, as we expand interdisciplinary research opportunities and enhance the student experience.

In this pivotal role, you’ll be part of a dynamic environment, working closely with academics, research students, professional services colleagues, and external stakeholders. You’ll manage a broad portfolio of responsibilities – from supporting funding proposals to overseeing budgets, organising high-profile research events, and leading a dedicated research support team.

What will you be doing?

As Research Project Officer, You Will

  • Support the end-to-end management of research projects, including administrative, financial, and contractual elements.
  • Provide expert guidance on research funding applications and help to construct strong, competitive bids.
  • Line manage members of the Research Team, supporting their development and ensuring consistent service delivery.
  • Monitor and report on project outputs, contributing to the School’s research excellence.
  • Coordinate events, workshops, and visits involving high-profile academics and stakeholders.
  • Act as a key point of contact for academic staff, students, central services, and external partners.
  • Continuously seek improvements in processes to enhance research support and delivery.

  • Proven experience in a research support role, preferably within a Higher Education environment.
  • A strong understanding of research funding and grant application processes, with knowledge of the UK research funding landscape.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a meticulous eye for detail.
  • The ability to take initiative, manage competing priorities, and work to tight deadlines.
  • Confidence in working with senior stakeholders and an approachable, professional manner when engaging with students and academics alike.
  • A positive, solution-focused attitude and the drive to enhance research support across the School.
  • Essential IT skills include proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience working with systems such as ERP, WorkTribe, or OREMS is highly desirable.

Additional information

Contract type: Fixed term until 31/05/2026

Work pattern: 35 hours per week/ Full-time, hybrid (3 days on campus), Monday - Friday, 09:00–17:00

Grade: I

Salary: £38,249 – £44,128 per annum
