At VCI Construction, the Accounting Specialist position is based in Upland, CA. What You’ll Do As An Accounting Specialist:

  • Review and add missing punches for a small group of employees
  • Run reports to ensure payroll accuracy for processing (typically Monday/Tuesday)
  • Prepare and process termination checks
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies Run payroll summary reports for management
  • Prepare and distribute weekly certified payroll reports and Non-Performance notices
  • Maintain confidentiality and employee trust in payroll operations
  • Assist with month-end reviews of project- and job-level P&Ls
  • Support weekly production data reviews
  • Understand financial reporting and general ledger structure; ensure GAAP and SOX compliance
  • Review and process subcontractor payouts and request required addendums
  • Onboard new subcontractors by collecting and verifying required documents (e.g., W-9, insurance)
  • Set up subcontractor profiles in internal systems
  • Track and verify subcontractor insurance and license renewals
  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date subcontractor records log
  • Act as a primary contact for subcontractor onboarding and payroll related inquiries
  • Assist management with ad hoc reporting and analysis
  • Develop a deep understanding of company systems and processes
  • Collaborate with the team to improve processes and deliver actionable results
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

What You’ll Need

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job.

  • Must possess excellent analytical skills and demonstrate the ability to quickly grasp new concepts
  • Must have 3-5 years’ experience in a construction or utility accounting/payroll environment
    • 3+ years of experience working with Certified Payroll requirements (a plus).
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, etc) and Google Sheets.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Skill in prioritizing multiple tasks and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Dependable with good attendance and adherence to work schedules.
  • Team player, self-motivated, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels.
  • Ability and willingness to quickly adapt to new technologies, including proprietary software
  • Experience with Google tools such as: Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Smart Sheets
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Strong accounting and finance skills are required.
  • Minimum 40 WPM typing speed with 10-key proficiency
What You’ll Need

Additional preferred Skills/Experience (not required but would be beneficial):

  • Construction industry experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (preferred)

Salary Range $29.00 - $ 29.00 per hour
