About Simmons University

NCAA Division III member institution sponsoring 11 teams and affiliated with the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), New England Women and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC- Rowing) and the North Atlantic Conference (NAC-Tennis). Decades before women in America gained the right to vote, Boston businessman John Simmons had a revolutionary idea — that women should be able to earn independent livelihoods and lead meaningful lives. It is this same spirit of inclusion and empowerment that has fueled Simmons’ strong tradition of advancing women and gender equity, produced the first African American Simmons graduate in 1914, and made Simmons one of the only private colleges that did not impose admission quotas on Jewish students during the first half of the 1900s. Founded in 1899, Simmons today is the only women-centered undergraduate program set in the heart of the dynamic city of Boston. Our institution offers a distinctive and high-value education centered around career development that prepares students to thrive in today’s competitive job market. At Simmons, students engage in rigorous academic exploration with expert faculty who are dedicated to teaching and ment...orship, immerse themselves in service-oriented leadership opportunities, and participate in real-world learning experiences. One hundred percent of Simmons students complete internships, clinicals, fieldwork, or research projects that help cultivate the skills that employers are looking for — such as communication, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving. In addition to our women-centered undergraduate program, Simmons also offers renowned coeducational graduate programs in nursing and the health sciences, education, liberal arts fields, library and information science, management, and social work. Students graduate from Simmons with a well-rounded academic and professional skill set. Many of our students mix and match majors and minors or participate in one of our accelerated degree programs that allow students to earn advanced degrees faster and more affordably in as little as four or five years. At Simmons, we also value the many dimensions and explorations of identity, which is reflected in our curriculum, affiliated organizations, and community partnerships. Here we create a welcoming and inclusive environment with modern living, learning, and working spaces that enable students to feel supported as they explore individual identities and interests, meet lifelong friends and mentors, and participate in thoughtful discussions and transformative experiences.
