The Scrum Master removes impediments, fosters a culture of continuous improvement, and ensures adherence to agile principles and practices—particularly those outlined in the Scrum Guide .
Responsibilities Of a Scrum Master
- Demonstrates the Company’s mission, while successfully performing its core values related to integrity, service, excellence, stability, strength, respect, and teamwork.
- Facilitate all Scrum events (Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective) with clarity, purpose, and timeboxing—driving outcomes, not just agendas.
- Actively coach teams on Scrum and Agile best practices and adapt techniques to fit the maturity level and constraints of each team.
- Collaborate with Product Owners to ensure product backlog quality, transparency, and readiness.
- Removes blockers and organizational impediments—both technical and political—so teams can focus on delivering value.
- Foster a culture of psychological safety, radical candor, and continuous improvement.
- Encourage cross-functional collaboration and accountability within and across teams.
- Track and report on team delivery metrics (e.g., velocity, cycle time, throughput) to identify trends – while ensuring metrics are used to inform, not punish.
- Champion Agile values across the organization and help drive broader Agile adoption and maturity.
- Act as a change agent by identifying and addressing anti-patterns, waterfall tendencies, and cargo cult behaviors.
- Coach stakeholders on Agile roles, events, and expectations to strengthen alignment across teams and departments.
- Navigates shifting priorities and environments while ensuring continuity and focus across projects.
- Actively supports and nurtures the growth, well-being, and success of team members.
- Prioritizes the development and cohesion of the team to drive collective performance and engagement.
- Regular and timely attendance in the office is an essential function of the position.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Business, or related field—or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- 3+ years’ experience as a Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or Agile Delivery Lead.
- Deep knowledge of Scrum, Kanban, and Agile principles; familiarity with LeSS or other scaling models is a strong plus.
- Experience using Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar tools to manage backlogs, sprints, and delivery pipelines.
- Demonstrates confidence in expressing ideas and guiding decisions without being overbearing or controlling.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to exercise authority with respect and collaboration, maintaining strong boundaries while fostering team input.
- Proven success driving Agile transformation or team-level turnarounds.
- Ability to quickly adjust to change and new information, maintaining productivity without sacrificing structure or clarity.
- Agile Certifications highly preferred (CSM, CSPO, CAL, etc.).
