Community Program Specialist plans and implements community family support programming, classes, events, and curriculums, and represents programming to both internal and external stakeholders appropriately and with fidelity. The Community Program Specialist is a contract/grant-funded position.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Administrative
- Maintain accurate logs and records as required by the Prevention Department and SJRC Texas.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports.
- Maintain the ability to use time and resources effectively to meet job requirements.
- Ensure all program data is accurate and detailed.
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Connect families to local community resources.
- Manage calendar for the Family Resource Center.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient computer literacy.
- Coordinate with community partners and stakeholders in implementation of prevention programming.
- Demonstrate professional knowledge and operational expertise within designated area of program focus.
- Ability to develop and deliver both oral and written presentations.
- Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart information to a range of clientele and/or stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies within a diverse community.
- Teach and facilitate group parenting classes including but not limited to Active Parenting and Nurturing Fathers.
- Teach and facilitate community classes and events.
- Participate in staff meetings, training and conferences as required by the Prevention Department and SJRC Texas.
- Plan and coordinate the development, implementation, and execution of sub-programs, special projects, and other initiatives designed to achieve the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the Department and Agency.
- Assist with the marketing and promotion of Prevention Programs to include the use of social media forums.
- Oversee and administer all facets of the day-to-day operations of the various programs and activities related to the position.
- Create, produce, and deliver a range of promotional, educational, and informational presentations, and/or resource materials related to program activities and initiatives.
- Help parents and children transition to other services as needed.
- Develop and maintain trusting relationships with families, caregivers and children.
- Monitor and manage a healthy balance between personal and professional responsibilities.
- Engage in recruitment and programming activities within the community.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Other related duties as required.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Family Studies or Social Service field of study.
- 1+ Years in Social Services Field including early childhood education, social work, health, psychology, or related field.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License, good driving record, ability to provide own transportation and proof of current automobile insurance.
- Age minimum of 21 years of age per licensing standards as insurance requirements.
Physical Demands
- Body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, and walk and walk briskly in order to interact with and monitor children.
- Stamina to work long days and drive long distances, travel of 70%.
- Moderate to heavy lifting to up to 60 pounds.
- Must have the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Must have the ability to give and receive verbal and written instructions (with or without hearing aids).
- Must have the ability to read fine print, have sustained vision, and peripheral vision (with or without glasses).
- Environment requires dexterity to remain calm and adapt to fast paced and emotional environments consisting of children with moderate to severe emotional and psychological needs
- Home-like settings with varying moderate to high degrees of background noise.
- Light and ventilation are found in a typical home setting.
- Travel of 70% with varying moderate to high degrees of road noise.
- Varying air conditions due to weather, allergens, and car exhaust in vehicles with open ventilation (windows down).
- Campuses are smoke-free, except on permitted campuses in designated areas.
- Possible injury when lifting or moving (child or objects) if employee fails to use proper body mechanics, or if proper techniques are not used when the use of SAMA containment techniques are required
