Pay Range for this position is: $95,000-$115,000 plus annual bonus, depending on experience.
Position Summary
The Food Scientist II reports to the R&D Lab Manager and is based out of our Cherry Hill, New Jersey location. The Food Scientist is an important member of our R&D team responsible for developing new products, preparing samples, developing & preparing bases for new juices, executing organizational tasks for the R&D department and learning advanced product development techniques. This position is also responsible for regulatory documentation.
Primary Responsibilities
Minimum Required Qualifications:
This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a typical office setting; driving a motor vehicle and occasionally working in the field.
FREQUENT: sitting, upward and downward flexion of neck; fine finger dexterity and light to moderate finger pressure to include extended periods of keyboard and mouse use, side-to-side turning of neck, walking, standing, bending and stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting at waist, moderate wrist torque to twist equipment knobs and dials
OCCASIONAL: squatting, kneeling, reach above and at shoulder height, moderate grasp to manipulate reference books and manuals; lifting objects weighing 20 – 35 lbs. from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 feet
VISION: Ability to see in the normal visual range with or without correction
HEARING: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction

This position is also responsible for regulatory documentation.
Primary Responsibilities
- New Product Development: Develops new juices, drinks, cocktails, teas, new age beverages and sauces as well as line extensions.
- Manage development, formulation, and duplication of new products from conception to shelf.
- Perform lab analysis, sensory analysis and conducts market product evaluation. Set ingredient product specifications and prepares final product formulations for testing and approval.
- Write and complete detailed accurate reports on analyses, experiments, projects and final product. Document formula calculations, process and ingredient requirements.
- Maintain formula records in QAD. Attend new product startups in the plant locations.
- Coordinate directly with purchasing on sourcing ingredients. Recommending new suppliers, getting required documentation from suppliers. Following up with suppliers on quality issues.
- Produce samples based on formulas developed by Food Scientists for sales samples and processing standards
- Assist other Food Scientists in development and preparation of bases and performs basic lab analysis
- Perform basic organizational / administrative tasks such as processing standards management, maintaining laboratory inventory, and processing guide changes
- Learn and master product development process and technology
- Reformulate current products
- Evaluate and test new ingredients
- Responsible for reviewing and approving scientist’s product specifications including NFL 2018 for release to Regulatory Affairs Department.
- Responsible for SQF compliance for R&D team.
- Responsible for Ingredient specification review and approval in Trace Gains.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Biology or Chemistry (or related discipline)
- Minimum 4 years prior experience in a laboratory environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Eagerness to learn
