Hello Neighbor is seeking a Mentorship Program Coordinator who will lead the Mentorship programs, working to connect immigrant and refugee families with volunteer supporters. This is an exciting opportunity for a relationship-builder with cross-cultural competency to work towards a more diverse and including Pittsburgh.

Mentorship matches immigrant and refugee families with local mentors to offer guidance, support, and friendship in the new chapter of their lives here in Pittsburgh.

The Mentorship Program Coordinator will manage enrollment and support for participants in the Mentorship program including intakes, in-home introductions and regular check-in meetings. They will collaborate with relevant team members to coordinate training and events for participants.

Founded in 2017, Hello Neighbor empowers refugees and immigrants through community connections, helping them move from arrival to belonging with dignity, cultural sensitivity, and meaningful support. Our work is organized across three departments—Education & Community Empowerment, Health & Stabilization, and Employment—each running programs designed to meet the unique needs of the communities we serve. In addition to our local work, we lead a National Network of grassroots organizations across the U.S., united by a shared commitment to supporting refugee and immigrant families and inspiring long-term change.

This is an in-house, regular, full-time, non-exempt, position at our Pittsburgh, PA office in Larimer. We are currently on a hybrid work schedule of 9am-5pm Monday through Friday; in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Reports To: Education & Community Empowerment Supervisor

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages the participant experience in the Mentorship program
  • Leads program recruitment, carefully selecting quality matches for volunteers and mentee families.
  • Builds strong relationships with participants through in-home meetings, phone calls, virtual check-ins, communication, and program events.
  • Visits family homes for intakes, check-in meetings, distribution of supplies, and other purposes.
  • Responds appropriately to address participant concerns, offering guidance and counsel as needed.
  • Collaborates with teammates to conduct participant training and create meaningful, memorable event experiences.
  • Ensures collection and organization of program outcomes including demographic information, attendance, and participant surveys
  • Participates in regular supervision meetings and relevant staff meetings
  • Adheres to Hello Neighbor’s confidentiality guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in related field (social work, sociology, anthropology, international relations, or similar) and 1-2 years of related professional experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the key responsibilities of the role
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with refugee and immigrant communities
  • Excellent communicator with strong written and verbal ability
  • Possesses cultural humility and openness the diverse perspectives, behaviors, and needs of the communities served
  • Able to cultivate excellent relationships with clients, staff, and partners
  • Exhibits adept task management, including priority setting, meeting deadlines, and efficient time scheduling for multiple responsibilities
  • Digital literacy and the ability to learn new software
  • Flexibility and ability to work nights and weekends as necessary
  • Effective collaboration with others through cooperative efforts
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
  • Alignment with and support of Hello Neighbor’s core values
  • Bilingual or multilingual in priority language preferred (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Swahili, French, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Haitian-Creole, Rohingya)

Additional Details

  • The position is a full-time, at-will, non-exempt, in-house position at our Pittsburgh office in the Larimer neighborhood
  • Clearances required: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal History Clearance (PA Act 23 & Act 24); Mandatory Reporter and/or PSEA training may also be required depending on job requirements
  • Valid driver’s license personal vehicle, and proof of insurance are required, Motor Vehicle Records will be required

  • The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
  • Compensation: $19 - $21/per hour, payable bi-weekly
