The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in claims processing while adhering to ERISA and HIPAA standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in health-related work, including at least 2 years in claims processing or Third-Party Administrator (TPA) experience.
- Minimum 2 years of medical call center triage experience.
- Advanced proficiency in claims processing software.
- ERISA and HIPAA certification required.
- Valid Alaska driver’s license, current vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel overnight for training as needed.
- Anchorage, AK office-based location required for training.
- Quick learner with consistent application of newly acquired skills.
- Strong integrity and discretion in handling confidential medical information per ERISA and HIPAA standards.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a professional and diplomatic approach to plan members, providers, vendors, and colleagues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a thorough approach to complex issues.
- Exceptional active listening skills to address the needs and concerns of callers.
- Proven ability to multitask and prioritize while maintaining composure under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills to ensure seamless health plan operations.
- Proficient in data entry and keyboarding with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent time management skills to optimize resources and meet deadlines.
- Part-time, averaging 3 days per week (20 hours), with flexibility to work 40 hours/week for 3–4 weeks annually.
- Remote work 90% of the time, except during training at the Plan Administrator’s office in Anchorage, AK.
- Requires a quiet, secure, and HIPAA-compliant home office space during health plan operation hours (8 AM–5 PM MT, Monday–Friday, excluding company holidays).
- No supervisory responsibilities.
- Reports directly to the Health Plan Administrator, VP of Health Plans.
- Support health plan and business unit objectives.
- Provide excellent customer service and health plan guidance to members and prospective company employees.
- Cover Health Plan Administrator’s call center hours and email responsibilities during their absence.
- Respond to calls and emails within 24 hours, maintaining detailed call logs, emails, and USPS mail records for seamless transitions.
- Scan and upload paper claims to the exchange server to ensure timely processing by health plan vendors.
- Check emails at least three times daily, responding within 24 hours or escalating to the Plan Administrator before the end of the business day.
- Process claims with an error rate of less than 2%.
- Document processes and observations to independently manage tasks in the absence of the Plan Administrator.
- Generate vendor and controller reports and handle HR-related data entry for new hires and terminations as assigned.
- Collaborate with the Plan Administrator to learn processes for annual open enrollment, claims audits, IBNR audit data compilation, and federal reporting (e.g., IRS Form 5500).
- Complete additional assignments and projects as directed by the Plan Administrator to meet business needs.
