    The Director of Student Engagement and School Climate identifies and assists in development of systems and strategies to ensure a positive and inclusive learning environment at all schools within RPS. This position involves developing strategies and initiatives to promote student engagement, student attendance, and a positive school climate. The Director collaborates with school administrators, educators, families, and community partners to create a supportive and enriching educational experience where all students feel they belong

    Roles and Responsibilities
    • Continually review research and best practices to identify effective approaches to supporting positive student behavior and reducing negative behaviors that disrupt the learning environment.
    • Continuously build the capacity of staff at RPS schools to use effective practices for supporting positive student behavior through School Continuous Improvement Plans (SCIPs), professional development sessions, professional learning communities, and in other ways.
    • Coordinate the school district’s District Wide Initiative for Systems Change (DISC) to integrate restorative practices into the work of all schools to create learning environments in which all students feel seen, valued, and actively engaged in learning.
    • Develop and coordinate implementation of a district initiative to reduce the number and percentage of students who are chronically absent from school.
    • Coordinate the development and implementation of a strategy to improve high school graduation rates through early identification of and support for students who struggle with behavior, attendance, and grades (BAG).
    • Continuously monitor data from the following sources to identify schools within RPS that need additional support and schools with positive outcomes where practices can be studied and then shared:
    • The quality of the school climate as measured by student, staff, and parent/caregiver surveys
    • Discipline rates
    • Attendance rates
    • Course completion rates
    • Grade promotion rates,
    • High school graduation rates
    7. Perform other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • 5 years of experience in education, with a focus on student engagement, school climate, or related areas.
    • Minnesota K-12 Principals License strongly preferred
    • Strong understanding of strategies for strengthening student engagement, school safety, school belonging, and positive student behavior.
    • Experience with the effective implementation of restorative practices
    • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
    • Experience in data analysis and using data to drive decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
    • Knowledge of equity and diversity issues in education, with a commitment to promoting inclusive practices.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement comprehensive initiatives that align with organizational goals and priorities.
    • Effective communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and persuasively to various audiences.
    • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying up to date on emerging trends and research in the field.
