Position Summary
This position maintains, repairs and installs water treatment plant equipment, machinery and related facilities; maintains a variety of records; participates in special projects; and performs a variety of technical tasks related to assigned areas of responsibility. Plant Maintenance Technician performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair and installation activities independently. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies for the work to be performed.
Duties/Tasks
Assist in the preventive maintenance program for plant equipment, machinery and related facilities; identify equipment maintenance needs; record mechanical equipment readings; ensure accuracy of records kept.
Perform routine mechanical, electrical, welding, or machining maintenance activities on equipment including lubrication, inspection, and replacement parts; order and maintain stock levels of lubricants used in plant equipment.
Maintain records of plant function readings and equipment history; maintain preventative maintenance records and schedules.
Conduct performance tests of plant equipment using tachometers, pressure gauges, flowmeter, amp and volt meters.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, update and repair malfunctioning plant equipment; maintain, repair and overhaul treatment plant equipment including aeration blowers, pumps and motors, compressors, belt press, valves, drive units, hydraulic control units, chlorinators, chemical feeders, pneumatic equipment and hydraulic pressure systems.
Participate in the installation of water treatment plant equipment; participate in making modifications to equipment for maximum treatment process performance.
Assignments include the use of standard hand tools, the operation of power- driven equipment, Company trucks or other equipment
Maintain efficient records on operations and activities; maintain plant safety records; maintain and record shipping and receiving of parcels; prepare a variety of reports on data. Report any equipment deficiencies or recommendations.
Ensure and adhere to safe work practices and procedures including, but not limited to lockout/tag out, confined space rules, and regulations involving the use of certain chemicals.
Interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and diagrams for a variety of water systems.
Assist with maintenance of the SCADA system and instrumentation as necessary.
Work is Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. Plant Technicians, in order to service the water treatment plant 24/7, are required to be on a rotating standby schedule.
Participate in special projects as assigned.
Perform related duties as required.
Essential Job Requirements
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED (required)
Technical courses in water plant operations or a combination of experience and training (PREFERRED)
CERTIFICATION: Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License and obtain a CDL Certification at an A, B, or C, level in surface water plant operations or ability to obtain within a set time depending
on the license and experience level EXPERIENCE: Water Treatment experience (PREFERRED)
Basic computer skills
Experience in using basic hand tools and some large equipment (PREFERRED)
Required Skills
Must have working knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations involved in maintenance of a water treatment plant
Must have the skills and ability necessary to use the tools, and equipment associated with the job such as, measuring tape, skill saw, drills, etc.
Must be able to conduct basic mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
Must be able to work in varying weather conditions daily
Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precauti ns associated with water plant chemicals and related activities.
Knowledge of chemicals as applied to water treatment, standard laboratory principles, techniques, terminology, and equipment.
Ability to detect and take appropriate action in the operation of water treatment equipment, chemical feeds machines and other related equipment
Ability tounderstand, communicate and follow policies, procedures, of the water treatment plant and the HWWS.
