Job Summary

Responsible for strategic planning, development, and coordination of the enterprise risk management strategy for the organization and affiliated companies. Provide technical guidance, training and planning for business units and staff to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal agencies. Abides by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following:

Develops and oversees the enterprise risk management (ERM) strategy.

Identifies, assesses, and mitigates risks across departments and business units.

Oversees compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.

In partnership with key leaders, establishes the strategy and plans for achieving top industry safety performance and culture.

Establishes necessary plans & goals for safety that provide for learning culture maturity and improvement in forward-looking key safety-related indicators and increasingly create a culture of safety across NEBCO companies.

Develops, captures, benchmarks, and analyzes key safety and operational metrics, and develop/implement recommendations for business and human performance improvement.

Analyzes data to support risk forecasting and reporting to executives.

Facilitates risk assessments across departments.

In partnership with business unit leaders, develops policies and procedures that support the company’s goals, the operations needs and achievement of top safety results.

Effectively manages and mentors the safety professionals and supports staff to achieve established goals, further the development and expertise of the team, ensure compliance with internal policy and external regulation.

Works with insurance and manages claims/litigation risk.

Supports the Insurance and other Departments for the effective management of Worker’s Compensation and disability claims, and Human Resources in companywide wellness programs.

Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Safety Department, Safety Director, Occupational Health Nurse, DOT, and Industrial/Environmental.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in risk management or safety management or related field preferred; or
  • equivalent of 10 years’ experience in progressively responsible safety position; or
  • equivalent experience in management of process of improvement; or
  • an equivalent combination sufficient to perform essential functions of this position.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid driver's license and must be insurable.
  • OSAH 10, OSHA 30, MSHA certifications preferred.

Other Qualifications:

  • Effective communication both verbally and in written form.
  • Must be knowledgeable with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
  • Occasional travel to various company locations and job sites required, no overnights.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess a high level of technical expertise, ability to apply skills to continuous process improvement while maintaining maximum levels of safety within the worksite.
  • Effective presentation skills and ability to present to groups of all sizes.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry, worksite safety practices, and procedures is preferred.
  • Must have an ability to work at all levels within an organization and the ability to work in a diverse work group.
