Responsibilities
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
Payroll Processing and Compliance
- Lead and manage day-to-day U.S. payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing for hourly and salaried employees.
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as collective bargaining agreements and internal company policies.
- Oversee accurate administration of all payroll-related deductions, including garnishments, liens, 401(k), benefits, and tax withholdings.
- Maintain timekeeping and payroll systems in partnership with HRIS and IT teams.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and robust internal controls to ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
- Support year-end processes including W-2 generation, reconciliations, and statutory reporting.
- Monitor and analyze payroll data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Ensure accurate recording of payroll entries in the general ledger, in alignment with accounting standards in the United States.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and investigate variances in coordination with the broader Finance team.Collaborate internally to ensure timely journal entries, accruals, and payroll-related financial reporting.
- Provide payroll-related data and reporting for audits, budgeting, and financial close processes.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and reconciliations as needed.
- Manage relationships with external payroll vendors to ensure service quality, compliance, and process reliability.
- Support implementation and upgrades of HRIS / Payroll systems or modules, ensuring alignment with organizational needs.
- Coordinate with HR and/or third-party administrators for benefits, retirement plans, and other payroll-related services.
- Collaborate with vendors to troubleshoot system issues, test enhancements, and ensure accurate data integration.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5-7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role managing people and payroll operations.
- Proven experience leading teams and supporting change initiatives or cross-functional projects.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. payroll laws, regulations, and tax requirements
- Proficiency with major payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, etc.) and timekeeping platforms.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
- High integrity and discretion when handling sensitive data; commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is preferred but not requiredStrong
