Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) is looking to hire an Animal Placement Coordinator to join their team. In this role, you will oversee PACC’s dog outcomes programs, using data-driven strategies to enhance placement success and accessibility. This includes collaborating across departments, developing innovative initiatives, improving the customer experience, and supporting front-facing staff. In addition, you will also recruit and manage animal fosters to develop customer service and positive outcomes for pets and people.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee and support the daily operations of adoption, foster, and/or other placement programs, ensuring effective workflows and positive customer experiences;
  • Provide leadership and front-facing management of placement supervisors and counselors, offering guidance, training, and support to enhance team performance and efficiency;
  • Deliver exceptional customer service across multiple channels by assisting adopters, fosters, and rescue partners with inquiries, matchmaking, and placement guidance;
  • Utilize data tracking and analytics to assess program performance, identify trends, and develop data-driven strategies to improve placement outcomes. Prepare and present reports on placement activities, program success, and areas for improvement;
  • Provide specialized animal handling for dogs with varying behavioral backgrounds, utilizing appropriate techniques to ensure safety and assess behavior to support safe placements, addressing the individual needs of each animal;
  • Provide informed placement recommendations for dogs, including those with behavioral or medical challenges, and participate in euthanasia decision discussions by assessing placement options while prioritizing public safety, animal welfare, and shelter capacity;
  • Provide ongoing support and education to fosters and adopters, including resources on animal care, behavior, and integration into homes;
  • Support the coordination of placement-focused events, including adoption and foster promotions, community engagement events, and off-site adoption opportunities;
  • Maintain accurate records of animal placements, communications, and interactions in the shelter database to ensure transparency and tracking of outcomes;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to increase placements, including targeted promotions, marketing campaigns, and community outreach;
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including medical, Animal Protection Services, and shelter operations, to ensure animals are prepared for placement and their needs are met;
  • Ensure compliance with shelter policies and procedures, including safety protocols and personnel responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in public or business administration or a field closely related to the program area, as determined by the appointing authority AND two (2) years of progressively responsible program administration experience or experience directly related to the nature of the program.

(Relevant professional level experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

OR:

Three (3) years of experience with Pima County as an Animal Care Technician or Animal Care Field Officer.

OR:

One (1) year as an Animal Care Placement Supervisor.

  • Customer service experience in animal sheltering, vet clinic, retail, or food service.
  • Experience building or improving programs to meet organizational goals or community needs.
  • Experience recruiting volunteers, fosters, or community members.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).

Selection Procedure:

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information:

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. Access to a registered/insured vehicle for business travel is required (business mileage reimbursed) at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record. Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or appointment.

Special Notice: Completion of a rabies vaccination cycle is required within 2 months of hire. Medical inability to be immunized or previous immunization must be verified by the County Physician prior to employment. Recommended boosters are required for the duration of employment, unless medically excused or physiologically unable to develop immunity. The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. This position will require a post-job offer physical and drug screen.

Physical/Sensory Requirements: This position requires the ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50lbs. Additional physical and sensory abilities will be determined by position.
